The first time you’re in charge of anything, notice if you start treating people differently. Then stop.

LEADERSHIP

WHAT THIS MEANS

Authority changes behaviour faster than almost anything else, and the person it changes is the last to notice. You explain less, interrupt more, and assume a decision is obvious because it is obvious to you. None of it feels like a change from the inside, it feels like being busy.

When you get put in charge of something, pick one person you trust and ask them to tell you if you get strange. Then watch the small things: who you interrupt, who you thank, whether you still do the bad jobs. Catching it early is easier than being told about it later.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Did a little authority change how you spoke to people?
