Getting inspired by someone’s style is fine. Copying their work and calling it inspiration isn’t.

LEADERSHIP
Influence shows up in how you do something. Copying shows up in what you hand over. Taking someone’s palette, their timing, their way of starting a sentence and running it through your own work is how anybody learns. Lifting the work itself and giving it a generous name means you wanted the result without the part that would have made it yours.
Where you feel the influence, name whose it is, because saying so makes you look like you know what you are doing. Then change one structural thing on purpose: the subject, the format, the ending. If you cannot describe what you changed, it is not made yet.
Where does borrowing from somebody’s style stop being borrowing?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
