Fire drills assign someone to check the bathrooms. Leadership means owning the places nobody thinks to look.

LEADERSHIP

WHAT THIS MEANS

Every plan has edges, and the edges are where people get forgotten, whether that is the far room, the kid who left early or the one task nobody put a name beside. Somebody has to own the places that do not occur to anyone, and that ownership is most of what responsibility actually means. The failures that hurt are nearly always in the unchecked corner.

Take whatever your team is organizing and ask which part has no name next to it. Put your own there this once. You will find there is usually more than one.
