Don’t promise the team a win. Promise your effort and a plan.

LEADERSHIP
Promising a result stakes your credibility on something you do not control, and you will be wrong sooner than you would like. What you can actually guarantee is your own effort and a plan worth running, which happens to be what people need from you before they commit theirs. Overpromising is a loan against trust you have not earned yet.
Say what you will do rather than what will happen, the next time somebody wants reassurance. Be specific about the plan. Then deliver the part that was yours, whatever the scoreboard ends up doing.
What outcome have you promised that was never yours to guarantee?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
