If you only lead the people who like you, you’re not leading. You’re hosting.

LEADERSHIP

WHAT THIS MEANS

Leading the people who already agree with you is pleasant and proves nothing, because none of them were going to be difficult. The job only begins with the person who finds you irritating, or thinks the plan is wrong, or did not want you in the role. A group is not the part of it that likes you.

Work out who you have been quietly writing off and go talk to them this week about the work itself. Ask what they would do differently. You do not need them to like you, only to be included.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Who in your group have you quietly written off as unreachable?
