When a teammate’s having a bad day, cover their station without making a speech about it.

LEADERSHIP

WHAT THIS MEANS

Help that comes with commentary stops being help. Announcing that you are stepping in puts the person in your debt and puts their bad day on display. Quiet cover lets them keep their dignity, and they remember who did it anyway. The point is to lighten the load, not to be seen lightening it.

If someone is clearly off this week, pick up one specific thing of theirs and say nothing about it. Wipe the table, take the next order, run their drill. If they mention it later, keep your answer short and move on.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Whose load could you quietly take on without mentioning it?
