Almost nobody remembers who asked the dumb question. Plenty of people remember the answer.

CREATIVITY
The audience you are worried about is paying far less attention to you than you imagine. People keep information they needed and let go of who prompted it, usually within minutes. The imagined cost of asking is vivid and the real cost is close to nothing, while the benefit lasts as long as you need the answer. It is not a close call.
Count how many questions other people asked today, then see how many of the askers you can name. After that, ask the thing you have been sitting on. If it helps, put it as the group’s question rather than yours.
What answer would the whole class get if you risked asking?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
