Making something nobody asked for is one of the most human things you can do.

Most of what you produce is requested: assignments, shifts, chores, favors. Making something unprompted is a different act, because nothing is waiting for it and nobody will grade it, so the only reason it exists is that you decided it should. That is a strange and specific kind of freedom. It is also where people find out what they actually like doing.

Make one unrequested thing this week and keep it small enough to finish. A song, a drawing, a shelf, a two-page story, a video nobody has to see. You do not have to show it to anyone.
