The same event can be a breakdown or a turning point. Often it’s both, and you decide which one you tell.

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

An event does not come with its interpretation attached. The facts of a bad month are fixed; what the month was is not, and that gets settled over time by how you account for it. Two honest accounts can emphasize different true things, and the one you repeat becomes the one you live with.

Try writing the hard thing twice, once as the worst version and once as the account of what changed afterwards. Both should be true. Then notice which one you have been telling people, and whether that is the one you want to keep.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Do you tell your worst year as collapse or turning?
