Simplicity is difficult because removal requires judgment.

RESILIENCE
Adding is easy because nothing has to be decided. Removing requires you to say that something does not matter, and to be responsible if you are wrong, which is why so much stays in place long after it has stopped earning its position. Simplicity is not an absence of effort; it is the residue of a lot of judgment. That is why it is rare.
Pick something you own, a document, a process, a routine, and remove one piece deliberately. Notice how much harder that choice is than adding one. The difficulty is the reason most things are more complicated than they need to be.
