Simplicity is the result of knowing what can safely be ignored.

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

You cannot simplify what you do not understand, because the whole act is deciding what will not matter. That decision requires enough knowledge to know which parts carry weight and which are incidental. Someone who leaves things out without knowing produces something broken; someone who knows produces something clean. The ignoring is informed rather than lazy.

Before cutting, make sure you can explain what each part does. Then remove what you can defend removing. If you cannot say what something is for, learn that first rather than deleting it hopefully.
