Information about you travels without your permission, and most of it gets repeated by people who were not there and have no stake in accuracy. Chasing every version is unwinnable, because a denial spreads the claim further and makes it look like it needed answering. What you can affect is the evidence held by the people who actually know you.

Spend your effort on those people rather than on the story. Keep being the same person around them, consistently, so that when something odd reaches them it contradicts what they have already seen.
