Nobody’s laundry pile appeared overnight. Neither did anybody’s reputation.

CREATIVITY

WHAT THIS MEANS

Things that look like single events are almost always accumulations. A week of small skipped evenings becomes a mountain in the corner, and a few hundred ordinary choices become what people say about you when you are not there. Neither has a dramatic origin, which is encouraging, because the same slow arithmetic runs in both directions.

Pick the pile you are currently pretending not to see and take ten minutes off it today rather than all of it. Then ask which repeated behaviour is quietly writing your reputation at school or at work. Change that one and give it longer than a week to show.
