“Weather” means to survive something and to be worn down by it. Most people do both at once.

CREATIVITY

WHAT THIS MEANS

Getting through a hard stretch and being changed by it are not alternatives. You can come out the other side standing and still be thinner in places, more tired, less willing to trust a certain kind of person. Nobody comes through unmarked, and pretending otherwise leaves people feeling like failures for having scars. Surviving includes the wear.

If you are in something now, count holding on as the achievement and stop expecting to feel fine about it. Take whatever restores a little: sleep, food, somebody’s company. Afterwards, let yourself notice what it cost, because naming that is part of coming back from it.
