Half attention is the normal way people listen now, and everyone can tell. One ear on the person, one on a screen, a reply already half built before they finish. It is not rudeness exactly, it is divided capacity, and the effect on the other person is the same either way. They learn to keep it short because they can feel they only have part of you.
Give one conversation this week your whole head. Put the phone face down and out of reach, ask a second question instead of changing the subject, and watch how much more somebody says.
Who were you half listening to this week?
