Owning something rare does not automatically make the owner interesting.

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

Objects do not transfer their qualities to their owner. A rare guitar in a room where no one plays is still a rare guitar and nothing more. What makes a person interesting is what they do, notice, and make, and acquisition is a shortcut that has never once worked.

If you find yourself wanting something partly for how it would make you appear, follow the thought further. Ask what you would actually be doing with it. If the answer is thin, the wanting may be pointing at something you would like to become, and that can be pursued directly.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

What do you own that you hope says something about you?
