The friend who says “text me when you get home” is worth more than a hundred who say “drive safe.”

The difference between care and politeness is whether anything is required of the person saying it. A general good wish costs nothing and ends the conversation, while asking you to confirm you got home means somebody intends to stay awake until you do. That is a small obligation taken on voluntarily, which is most of what love looks like in practice at any age.

Do the version with the obligation in it this week. Ask one person to tell you when they are home, or check on somebody the day after the hard thing rather than the day of.
