“Hold fast” means don’t move, and “fast” means move quickly. Knowing which one the moment needs is wisdom.

CREATIVITY

WHAT THIS MEANS

Two opposite instructions share one word, and most of real judgment is knowing which the moment is asking for. There are situations that need you to stay exactly where you are and say nothing, and situations that need you to move immediately, and they can look remarkably similar from the inside. People tend to have a default. You either hold too long or you bolt, and knowing which one you do is the beginning of getting it right.

Name your default. Next time this week, deliberately try the other one and see what happens.
