Feeling like an outsider at a new school for a few months is normal. Belonging builds. Nobody gets it on day one.

STILLNESS

WHAT THIS MEANS

Belonging is made out of shared time, and on day one you have none of it. What feels like rejection is usually just the absence of history: no inside jokes yet, nobody who already knows your name, no stories you were part of. That takes months to collect, and it does collect, even when nothing seems to be happening.

If you are the new one, pick two or three people and keep turning up near them. Join the thing that meets weekly, since repetition is what builds this. Let three months pass before you decide anything about whether you fit.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Where are you new enough that belonging is still being built?
