STILLNESS
STILLNESS
Panic is convinced it is accurate. Years later, almost none of the catastrophes stayed catastrophic, but at the time each one felt like a line you could not come back across. Somebody who has lived six or seven decades is holding the proof, not as a theory but as a list with names and dates.
Ask her, and ask for specifics: what she was sure would ruin everything at seventeen, and what actually happened. Write down two of them. Then put your current worst problem next to hers and see whether it still looks final. Most things that end the world turn out to be a hard few months.
Which older relative of yours could list disasters that ended fine?
