An apology given before someone’s ready to hear it can feel like pressure. Sometimes sorry needs space.
STILLNESS
STILLNESS
An apology is for the other person, which means its timing belongs to them. Delivered too soon it arrives as a request: for forgiveness, for the conversation to be over, for them to manage your guilt. Being genuinely sorry sometimes looks like waiting.
Offer it once, simply, without explaining yourself, and then leave them alone with it. No follow-up messages asking whether things are okay. Show the change in how you behave over the next few weeks, which is the part that actually repairs anything. If they come back later wanting to talk, be easy to find.
Who might need space before they can hear your apology?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
