The truth does not need majority approval.
REFLECTION
REFLECTION
How many people agree with something has no bearing on whether it is so. Agreement is useful socially and it feels like safety, which is why consensus keeps getting mistaken for evidence, but a room full of people can be confidently wrong together and often has been. The count tells you about the room, not about the claim.
When you find yourself reassured mainly by how many people share your view, go looking for the actual reasons underneath it. And when you hold a minority position, check the reasoning rather than the loneliness. Both directions require the same test.
What do you believe is right that few around you accept?
