Ask the kitchen to rush your table and another table waits longer. Your hurry always lands on somebody.

STILLNESS

WHAT THIS MEANS

Hurry does not disappear when it is granted. It moves. Any queue holds a fixed amount of capacity, so pushing yourself forward takes time from somebody you cannot see, and the cost feels like nothing precisely because you are not the one paying it. Impatience is rarely a private matter.

Ask who absorbs it the next time you want something sooner: a classmate, a coworker, a stranger behind a counter. Take your place in the order unless the reason is real. When you genuinely do need to go first, say so plainly and acknowledge whoever you stepped in front of.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Who absorbed the cost the last time you rushed something?
