Nobody posts their scales. Everybody who plays well did them anyway.

STILLNESS

WHAT THIS MEANS

What gets shown is the result, and the unglamorous work behind it almost never makes the display. That leaves a false picture in which skill appears to come from nowhere, since hours of dull repetition are invisible by choice rather than by accident. Everybody who plays well did the boring part, and none of them made anything to watch about it.

Assume the dull work happened behind whatever impresses you, and put yours in the calendar rather than waiting to feel inspired. Twenty minutes of fundamentals, four times this week. Do not expect it to be interesting, and do not skip it for that reason.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Which unglamorous practice are you skipping because nobody sees it?
