Leaving your phone in the car during a hike is how you actually see the trail.
STILLNESS
STILLNESS
A phone in your pocket takes a cut of everything you look at, because part of your attention stays with it even when it is face down and silent. The view gets half seen and then photographed. Leaving it behind is not about discipline, it removes the choice so your attention stops being split. Most people describe the walk afterwards as longer and better, which is the same walk.
Leave it in the car or the bag for one walk this week. Tell somebody where you are going first if that makes it easier. Then just go and look at the trail.
