A friend who’s always “just being honest” about you might be just being mean.
STILLNESS
STILLNESS
Honesty and bluntness are not the same thing, and that phrase gets used to launder one as the other. Real honesty accounts for the other person: timing, dosage, whether it was asked for, whether it can be used. A steady supply of unflattering remarks announced as candour is not a commitment to truth, because it never runs in the other direction, toward the honest good things.
Check the direction over the last month. If it only ever points one way, you can name it plainly: I would rather you did not do that. Then watch whether it stops.
Who delivers unkindness to you under the cover of honesty?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
