A messy desk is a hundred tiny things asking for your attention at once.

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

Objects make claims. Every unfinished thing in your eyeline is a small request, and even though you are not consciously answering them, some part of you is keeping track of the laundry, the half-done worksheet and the mug from Tuesday. That is why a cluttered room makes concentrating feel heavier for no reason you can name.

Clear one surface before you start, not the whole room. Two minutes putting everything either away or into a single pile out of sight, then work on the empty space. You are not doing it to be tidy, but so that the only thing asking you for something is the task.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

What is sitting on your desk quietly asking to be dealt with?
