Attention works like a flashlight. Whatever you point it at gets brighter, and the rest of the room goes dark.

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

Attention does not just find what is there, it amplifies it. Whatever you aim at fills your sense of the situation, and everything outside the beam stops existing for you. That is how two people in the same room can honestly report different days. Neither one is lying; they were pointing at different things.

Check your aim once a day this week. If you have been lighting up the single thing going wrong, swing the beam deliberately onto something that is working and hold it there a minute. You are not pretending anything, only stopping the beam from sticking where it landed.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

What went dark while you pointed your attention somewhere else?
