You can’t see someone’s rent, their family drama or their sleep. Leave room for what you can’t see.

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

Everybody you deal with is carrying a set of facts you have no access to. Money, a bad night, somebody ill at home, a thing they cannot talk about. You only ever see behaviour, and then you explain it with the only material you have, which is your own guess. The guess almost always underestimates what is going on.

Add one line to your explanations this week: there is probably something I do not know. Use it on the friend who was short with you, the teacher who snapped, the parent who said no. It does not make the behaviour fine, and it stops you building a case on nothing.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

What might be going on at home for someone you misjudged?
