“I feel bad” is vague. “I feel left out” is something you can actually work with. Name it precisely.

STILLNESS

WHAT THIS MEANS

Vague feelings cannot be acted on, so they sit there getting heavier. Naming the specific one, left out rather than simply bad, points straight at what might help and who is involved, and it also shrinks the feeling to its real size. Precision is not fussiness, it is the difference between a mood you are stuck in and a problem with edges.

Next time you feel off, keep trying words until one clicks. Left out, embarrassed, jealous, overlooked, tired, behind. Write the sentence in full with the person or the situation in it. Then ask what the named version needs, because it is usually something small.
