Go to a movie by yourself once. You’ll find out you were the company you were waiting for.

STILLNESS

WHAT THIS MEANS

Waiting for company is how a lot of plans quietly die. The assumption underneath is that an experience does not count unless somebody is there to share it, and an evening alone at the cinema tests that fairly cheaply. Mostly what you find is that nobody is looking at you and you were free to go the whole time. The things you have been putting off were never actually dependent on somebody being available.

Book one this week, or the daytime equivalent, and go on your own. Expect the first two minutes to feel strange. Afterwards ask whether you enjoyed the film less, which is the real question.
