Summers feel endless at ten and fast at nineteen. Same number of days. More of them are spoken for.
STILLNESS
STILLNESS
A summer shrinks because obligations move into it. At ten the days turn up genuinely empty; at nineteen most of them already belong to a job, a team or a course, and what used to be one wide stretch becomes the gaps between commitments. The number of days held steady. The ownership of them did not.
Block two or three days of this summer before anything else claims them, and keep them empty on purpose. Not planned, just unspoken for. An empty day is now something you have to defend rather than something handed to you.
How much of your summer is already claimed by obligations?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
