Some couples save a piece of their wedding cake for the first anniversary. People have always tried to freeze a good moment.
STILLNESS
STILLNESS
The urge to preserve a good day is ancient and slightly impossible. A slice of cake in a freezer, a pressed flower, a ticket kept in a wallet: none of it brings the day back, and all of it is an attempt to argue with time. There is something touching in the effort, even though the cake is never any good afterwards.
Keep one small object from something that mattered this year and put it where you will come across it by accident. Write the date on it. Objects fade fast on their own and hold up remarkably well with a date attached.
