Someone still remembers the time you sat with them at lunch when nobody else did. You probably don’t.

Kindness is weighted differently on each side. What was a small, barely noticed decision for you may have been the only good part of somebody’s week, and they kept it. That lopsidedness means you are almost certainly carrying credit you have no memory of earning.

Look for the person sitting alone this week and sit down there without making a thing of it. You will forget it by June. They might not, and that is the whole point.
