How your class treats a substitute shows whether you respect people or just authority.

Respect that only appears for people with power is not respect, it is caution. A substitute has no power over you, no history with the class and no way to punish anybody, which makes the room an honest test: what people do when there is no cost is what they actually think. Most classes fail that quietly. The ones who do not get noticed by everybody.
In the next class with a sub, behave the way you would with the regular teacher without waiting for anybody else. Learn their name and use it. One person acting normally changes the temperature of a room more than you would expect.
How did your class behave the last time a substitute arrived?
