Find a mentor who’s two steps ahead of you, not twenty. Their advice still fits your shoes.

Advice stops being usable when the gap gets too wide. Somebody twenty years ahead has forgotten the texture of your actual problem and will answer the question they have now, while the person two steps ahead remembers last year clearly: which teacher to take, how the application works, what the first shift is like. Both have value. Only one can tell you what to do on Tuesday.
Find whoever is a year or two ahead of you in the thing you care about and ask one specific question. Make it small enough to answer in a message. Those conversations are easy to get because nobody thinks to ask for them.
Who is just slightly ahead of you and worth asking?
