Ask your parents for advice once in a while, even if you don’t take it. Trust grows both ways.

Being asked changes how a parent sees you. It moves you from someone to be managed into someone who consults them, and that shift tends to loosen the grip rather than tighten it. The advice itself is not the point, and you are allowed to hear it and do something else. What they register is that you were willing to let them in on the decision.
Pick something low stakes this week and actually ask. Which job to apply for, how to handle a coach, whether the car noise matters. Listen properly to the answer before you decide, because that is the part they can tell.
What could you ask a parent about just to hear them?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
