Remember who helped you move when all you owned was a mattress and a box fan.

Helping somebody move is unglamorous, physical and entirely unrewarded. There is no good version of it, which is why the people who turn up are telling you something that cannot be faked. Later, when there is more to go around, it is easy to forget the afternoon with the mattress and the stairs. The people who were there do not usually mention it.

Keep that list and act on it when you have something to give. A ride, a job lead, a weekend of your own. And go help somebody carry furniture this year, because that is the version of the favor you can afford now.
