“I forgive you” doesn’t mean everything snaps back to normal. Forgiveness and trust run on different clocks.
GRATITUDE
GRATITUDE
Letting go of the anger is one decision. Rebuilding the confidence that it will not happen again is a different process, and it runs on evidence rather than goodwill. You can honestly mean that you are not holding it against someone and still not be ready to leave your phone with them. Expecting the second to arrive with the first is how people end up re-hurt.
If you forgave somebody recently, let the trust come back in stages instead of all at once. Say what you can offer now and what you cannot yet. If you are the one being forgiven, do not read a slow return as a grudge.
Have you forgiven someone while still feeling careful around them?
