Every family has a cousin who’s the glue. If nobody’s doing it lately, it might be your turn.

GRATITUDE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Groups do not hold together by themselves. Somewhere there is a person sending the first message, remembering the birthdays, driving the long way to pick somebody up, and that work is invisible precisely because it is done well. When they get tired or move away, everyone notices the silence and nobody knows why it happened. The job is not a personality type but a position, and anybody can fill it.

Look at whether your family has been quiet lately. If it has, send one message to the group and propose one date. You will feel awkward doing it, and somebody has to be the one who does.
