Leaving your mess for the morning crew is a message, and they read it every time.

GRATITUDE
What you leave behind is a statement about who you think has to deal with it. The opening crew walks in at six, finds the floor sticky and the stock not rotated, and learns something about the people on the other shift without a word being exchanged. It is not laziness they resent; it is the assumption that their hour is worth less than yours. Those judgements harden fast.
Spend the last ten minutes doing the thing that would have made your own morning easier. Leave a note if something broke. And if you open, say thanks out loud to whoever left it clean, because almost nobody does.
What have you left behind for the next shift to deal with?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
