Any group that makes you get hurt or humiliated to join isn’t building loyalty. It’s testing obedience.

GRATITUDE

WHAT THIS MEANS

A group that charges an entry fee in pain is buying something other than friendship. Real belonging does not need a ritual to manufacture it, and the people running one are usually protecting their own position: if you suffered to get in, you will defend the suffering, and you will do what you are told. That is the function. Obedience is easier to produce than loyalty.

You are allowed to walk away from a group mid-process, and nothing you have already endured obliges you to continue. Tell an adult or a coach if people are getting hurt. And when you have standing somewhere, do not pass it on.
