Team traditions look silly from outside. That’s the point. They belong to the people inside.
GRATITUDE
GRATITUDE
Rituals look absurd from the outside because that is how you can tell who is inside. A chant, a lucky shirt, a thing everybody does before the first whistle: none of it makes sense explained, and explaining it is not the function. It exists so that a group of people who happened to be assigned to each other have something they share and nobody else does.
Do not apologise for yours to people who are not in it. Keep them going even on the years when they feel stale, because they are easy to lose and hard to restart. And add one of your own before you leave.
Which ritual of your team would make no sense to outsiders?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
