When your parents split up, you don’t have to pick a side. Loving both of them isn’t betrayal.

GRATITUDE
Loving two people who no longer love each other is not a contradiction, whatever the atmosphere suggests. Children in that situation often get treated as evidence by both sides, and the pressure to show whose version you believe can feel enormous. You are allowed to refuse the question. Nothing about your affection for one of them subtracts from the other.
If you can, say once to each of them that you are not going to be the referee. Keep the things you love about each house without reporting between them. And if it stays heavy, find one adult outside the family who can hear it without a stake in it.
Where have you felt pushed to choose between two people you love?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
