Judge your own game like a scout, not a fan.

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

A fan watches for moments and a scout watches for patterns. One remembers the goal; the other notices your first touch under pressure, your position when the ball turned over, the thing you do every single time you get tired. The fan’s view is more enjoyable and tells you almost nothing about what to practise.

Next time you review your own performance, pick two or three repeatable things to look at instead of watching for highlights. Count them. Then take the weakest of the three into the week, and let the good moments be good without studying them.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Could you watch yourself play without rooting for yourself?
