“Always” and “never” in an argument are almost never true.

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

Absolute words turn a specific complaint into a charge about somebody’s character, and that is the moment a conversation stops being fixable. The other person now has to defend their whole history instead of discussing one evening, and they will find the exception, because there is always an exception. The exaggeration also hands them a way to dismiss the real point.

Say the actual event next time: this thing, yesterday, and how it landed. Keep the timescale small and the detail specific. The narrow version is usually what you really meant anyway.
