A high standard should know exactly what it is measuring.

RESILIENCE
A high standard that cannot say what it is measuring is not a standard, it is a mood. It fluctuates with your energy and your opinion of yourself, and it makes people around you anxious because they cannot tell when they have met it. Real standards are specific enough that someone else could apply them and reach the same verdict.
Take something you hold to a high bar and try to write down the criteria. If the list comes out as adjectives, keep going until you have something observable. Then you can tell when you are done, which is the part an unspecified standard never lets you have.
