In every story you tell about a fight, check whether you always come out as the nice one.
REFLECTION
REFLECTION
Stories get shaped in the telling, mostly without you meaning to. The details that make you look reasonable survive, the ones that do not get trimmed as unimportant, and after a few retellings the edited version is the one you remember. If you always come out as the calm, fair person in your own accounts, that is an unlikely record. Real people are the difficult one sometimes.
Take the last fight you described to a friend and ask what you left out. Usually it is a sentence you said, or a tone. Put it back next time you tell it, even though the story gets less flattering and more true.
Are you the reasonable one in every argument you describe?
