Found your own mistake weeks later? Still flag it. “I just caught this” ages better than a buried error.

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

An old error is awkward to raise because the obvious question is why nobody caught it sooner. Still, a problem found by someone else months later comes with the discovery that it was known and unmentioned, which is a different and worse conversation. Reporting it yourself keeps it a technical matter. Time makes a mistake smaller and a silence larger.

If you have spotted something from a while back, say it in one sentence this week, without a preamble about how you only just noticed. Offer the fix in the same breath. Most people will be glad it surfaced, and nobody keeps score of how long it took.
