Competence gives generosity somewhere practical to come from.

LEADERSHIP

WHAT THIS MEANS

Wanting to help is common, and being able to help is not. Skills, resources, and steadiness are what turn goodwill into something a person can actually receive. Competence gives your generosity a place to land rather than leaving it as sympathy that changes nothing.

Think about the people you care about and what they most often need. Then ask whether you have anything concrete to offer there, and if not, whether it is learnable. Being useful in a specific way to specific people is a quieter form of kindness than feeling deeply, and it goes further.
